Research Assistant Spotlight: Sarah Abdul-Ghani

With the end of the semester fast approaching, Sarah Abdul-Ghani, a second-semester senior, reflects on her time at the Fani Lab and at Emory University. Sarah joined the lab in her sophomore year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, she was working virtually completing clearance screens and various projects.

When asked about her motivation to join the Fani lab, Sarah responded, “The pandemic opened my eyes to the world of research and the impact it can have on the livelihood of others. I was curious about how high levels of stress and trauma can impact our health, and I felt that the Fani Lab was a perfect fit!”

Her individual research project primarily focuses on the social determinants of health and the physical and mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. She will be presenting a poster at the ADAA Symposium in April 2023. Sarah aims to attend medical school following graduation. Sarah adds, “I will continue to carry the lessons I learned at the Fani Lab and at Emory as I pursue my future career!”
